Hi congratulations!!! The program is pretty difficult, they definitely try to weed you out doing your first two years of taking pre-requisites so be ready to study A LOT. I swear my second year was fucking hell and I felt so stupid the entire time but I made it out okay(even though my gpa suffered a little) and you should be able to as well. it definitely gets a little easier during your upper divisions(still fucking hard though) but the classes you take are way more specific to your major(we have like 8 different bio majors) and the class sizes get relatively smaller. It is a UC so you’ll be taking classes with hundreds of other students and it is hard to stand out, but just go to office hours and get to know your professors and even your TAs, they would give you some extra tips and they are the ones that are grading your tests. Also we have an awesome CLAS tutoring program to help you with your classes and they will seriously save your gpa lol. If you are trying to go into research, this school has a ton of opportunities and I would try to get a position with a professor as soon as possible. But If you are trying to go into the health field, it is a little more difficult to find places to get experience because we don’t have a medical school and there are only like two small hospitals nearby. Don’t let that discourage you though because plenty of people still go on to great medical/pharm/dental/whatever schools. I do think our program could be improved, but talking to people at other universities makes me realize that I’m pretty lucky to be at this school. I definitely recommend coming here it’s a beautiful campus with really beautiful people-inside and out- and you’ll see the results you want as long you put work into it:) I hope I helped good luck with everything!!
